Notes: (some notes are part of 2015 versions for re-use or inspiration!)

  1. No individual ACW records broken - but many individuals beat their previous best times from earlier years.
  2. All those with no finish time completed part of the 40-miles, either by planned intent or because they retired part way round (place indicated by entry in Finish Time column).
  3. ADV Manufacturing team of 7 40-Milers
Great day had by all.  We raised approx. £2,500 in memory of Nick Ratcliffe, Marks younger brother who passed away 4 years ago.  The money will go especially to the Myton Hospice a place that Mark holds very dear to him as they cared brilliantly in Nicks last weeks.
We were honoured that the ACW gave us the platform to give something back.  We hurt like crazy but we did it and felt amazing in our achievement.
Many thanks on behalf of Mark Ratcliffe and myself.
    Dale Brown.

Relay Notes:

Note: All "Relay Team Leaders" now replied, but a few loose ends to be added later - and no doubt a few corrections of my transcript/edit operation.

  1.  Kenilworth Runners - 4 Teams =  (Total of 8 men + 8 Ladies)

The names of the 4 teams were derived from my interest in 70's rock music.

Each team consisted of 4 people running 4 legs of similar lengths with handovers at the ACW Checkpoints.  Details in table below:

    Clearwater Revival

    Dexy's Runners
    The
    Mountain Daredevils
    The
    Crimson Kings
Leg 1      Liz Cross Mike Crust Aidan Keher Liz Hegan Meriden to Kenilworth
Leg 2 Stan Alexander Mandy Crust Simon Mottershead Gus Davidson Kenilworth to Wolston
Leg 3 Claire Goult Tom Dable Steph Lunn Stuart Batchelor Wolston to Bedworth
Leg 4 Sheela Hobden Pauline Dable Beth Keel Amanda Males Bedworth to Meriden
Interested in detail of Names?  Read smallprint:
    The original names were:
     - Kenilworth Clearwater Revival (Credance Clearwater Revival)
     - Dexy's Kenilworth Runners (Dexy's Midnight Runners)
     - The Kenilworth Crimson Kings (King Crimson)
     - Kenilworth Mountain Daredevils (Ozark Mountain Daredevils)

However these monikers  where deemed to be to long, so Kenilworth was dropped from the title, hence the team names. We where going to have "Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Kenilworth" so it is just as well we decided against that one !!

Everyone really enjoyed the day.  Fantastic organisation & great atmosphere.  A massive vote of thanks to ACWA.  Would heartily recommend the event.

All the best & thanks from all 16 of us.

  2. Earlsdon Adventurers = (2 men + 3 Ladies)
Leg 1      Sally Crick                   Meriden to Vicarage Road, Stoneleigh
Leg 2 Sally Eason Vicarage Road, Stoneleigh to Tutbury Lane, Bretford
    Leg 3 Rachel Canning &
    Mark Canning
Tutbury Lane, Bretford intersection to CP 5 Bedworth
Leg 4 Andrew Marsh CP 5 Bedworth to Meriden

Thanks to "A Coventry Way Association" for the amazing organisation.  We all really enjoyed the event and have learned a lot more about the footpaths around our city!

  3. Massey Ferguson = (2 men + 9 Ladies)
Leg 1      Cathy Keay and Sheila Johnson  Meriden to Kenilworth
Leg 2 Wendy Foxall and Carol Martin Kenilworth to Wolston
Leg 3 Tiffanie Slatford, Emma Cutting and Jane Damms Wolston to Brinklow
Leg 4 Andy Cutting and Paulina Czyzewska Brinklow to Bedworth
Leg 5 Andy Cutting, Steve Damms and Mylene Feeney Bedworth to Meriden
The Massey Ferguson relay (listed above) were in the main novices at the event, all but one had never taken part before.  The all thoroughly enjoyed it and have all said they want to take part again next year with many of them wanting to take on a larger part of it.

Once again thanks to all those who helped on the day.  I will definitely be doing my 5th challenge next year.  Ruth Mahon.

  4. 74th Coventry Scouts = (4 Boys + 1 Girl + ? Adults)
Leg 1    Sean Walton Meriden - Bubenhall
Leg 2 Matthew Clarke Bubenhall - Brinklow
Leg 3 Rebecca Bonney Brinklow - Bedworth
Leg 4 Zachary Ellis Bedworth - Breach Oak
Leg 5 Filip Muskalski Breach Oak - Corley Moor
Leg 6 Evertone  Corley Moor - Meriden
For each leg the young scouts were accompanied by a senior scout or a parent, with some of the adults covering two legs.

Each leg started at about the time the checkpoint opened & before the previous leg was completed.  The Elapsed time is calculated by adding the times for each leg.

Excellent Challenge.   WELL DONE TO EVERYONE.

  5. Coventry Ramblers 1 & 2 Teams = (5 men + 4 Ladies)
       Leg 1      m1 & w1         Meriden to Kenilworth
    Leg 2 m1 & w2 Kenilworth to Bubenhall
    Leg 3 m2 & w3 Bubenhall to Brinklow
    Leg 4 m3 & w4 Brinklow to Bedworth
    Leg 5 m4 & m5 Bedworth to Meriden

    ... or in smallprint words:

    The structure was slightly complicated...

One man walked Meriden to Bubbenhall, accompanied by one woman to Kenilworth and
    another from there to Bubbenhall.
A m/w couple walked form Bubbenhall to Brinklow,
Then another m/w couple from Brinklow to Bedworth.
Then a m/m pair walked from Bedworth to Meriden.

We were helped by walking with another m/w couple of Coventry Ramblers who entered individually and completed the whole 40 miles.

We had a good day - many thanks!
Hopefully we will be able to enter a team (or two) next year.

Leg 4 Philip Morgan, John King and Richard Barr    (9.2 miles)    Bedworth to Meriden

Money being raised for BRAKE (road safety charity) in memory of a colleague, Mark Smith (completed a leg last year) who was killed in a road accident last Autumn while driving home from work (Henley-in-Arden Road).  Money still coming in but so far about £400 has been raised.  The other driver has been charged

We thank all the people involved in making this event so pleasurable..

I would class our team as 'mixed' and '8 legs between CPs', but it wasn't that straightforward!  See above picture of Spreadsheet - but read the smallprint:

I did the full 40 miles with students from my Form and a couple of parents helping me out along the way; names of everyone and what they did is in the attached Excel file (I included Stoneleigh in the file since one of the team and her Dad had to pull out between Checkpoints).

The idea was for one or two students to join me on each 'leg' but four students were keen to see how far they could go so they all started with me in Meriden and their target was to get to Wolston. In fact, they managed 10, 22, 30 and 40 miles! Abdullah Abdullah, who did all of the 40 miles with me, was 13 years and 208 days on 3rd April ... is he a contender for the youngest finisher of The Coventry Way? (I belive that is a record, equal to Tom Swift's 2003 record give or take a few months difference in birthday dates? - Peter Page)

The two who completed the 40 miles have also been entered individually.

It was an incredible experience which brought together so many of my Year 8 Tutor Group and their parents. Thank you very much! We are still raising money but I am hopeful that we will go over the £1000 mark. We were raising money for Myton Hospice and the National Holiday Fund.
