ACWA Working Party

On 30-May-2007 a joint KFPG/ACWA Working Party installed two gates, one at each end of the footbridge on KFPG walk O/ ACW walk 4 (GR 263 744).

Details

This task was arranged by KFPG as a "training day" with Richard Barnard.  The bridge had been installed by KFPG some years ago, who more recently have replaced most of the stiles on this path with k/g.  Before this WP, the bridge had wooden bars at each end, forming 'stiles' which were harder to climb than many of the stiles replaced.  The walk is now becoming friendly to all users - including (we trust) large dogs!  [Update: they passed - see below]

Plans

The next session will be on:

Wednesday 20th Jun at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location:

One stile south of Wood End Lane, East of Fillongley, plus two stiles in the garden of The Laurels on approach to Coventry Road : Sites 13 (GR 293 867), 15  & 16 on map (GR 292 863)

Meet at: [confirmed 6-Jun-07] : "Lay-by" opposite The Laurels, Coventry Road, Fillongley (GR 292 863)
Task(s): To replace the next three stiles on walk 17A - the next (see photo above) with metal k/gs, and the two in the path through the Laurels with Wooden p/g.

Our plans for future working parties are to continue to place some effort in improving the remaining difficulties on the 40-mile walk and other circular walks, but to give more priority to creating further stile-free short (3 to 5 mile) circular walks.  Work on CWCW 17A started in February, and will take most of 2007.

Dates for rest of 2007 mostly on the third Wednesday in each month from Jan-Nov.  The expected dates are:

  • Wednesday 18 Jul
  • Wednesday 15 Aug
  • Wednesday 19 Sep
  • Wednesday 17 Oct
  • Wednesday 21 Nov

Why not volunteer to join us whenever you can?
