October Achievements
On 15-Oct-2008
the WP installed two kissing gates on the Kenilworth Golf Course to A46 section
of ACW, both near Kingswood Farm (GR 316 731).
The photos above show one of the new k/gs and the pedestrian
gate it replaces. The pedestrian gate was an attractive wooden
one installed by KFPG a few years ago, but still in good
condition. The landowner had added a prominent red sign imploring
users to shut the gate, but many left it open and the horses got
out, and therefore asked for a k/g. Debatably it may have been
"better" to make the p/g self close reliably, but the new k/g is
probably even more reliable!
The second new k/g viewed from the North, and close-up of notice : 15-Oct-2008
The second new k/g (photo above) replaced a wobbly stile where
the path reached the fence
of the A46 and turns left. The new k/g and
WMP were located so that the waymark post clearly shows the 90
deg turn approached from either direction. We did however retain the
landowners notice, which tried politely asking for users to follow the signs and treat
the horses correctly. I'm sure most of readers already did, but if
you notice any who still can't read all the signs. please point them
in the right direction!
Later in the month Bob C and Peter,
on a number of individual visits, "completed" the
WM update on the stretch of ACW from Stoneleigh to
Stareton. The only outstanding task is on the WMP just after
crossing the River Avon, which has gone missing - probably connected
to the felling of a very large oak tree, where the clearing up
activities are still in progress.
