ACWA Working Party

On 17-Jun-2009 a Working Party installed the final two new gates and a new sleeper bridge on Circular Walk 7, north of Weston Lane, Bubbenhall.

June Achievements 2 (cont. from WP News 38)

The first new gate is a k/g located at GR 366 709, and the second new gate is a p/g the other side of the stream.  These two gates replace the rickety stiles we have struggled with over recent years, and which have nearly caused a number of users to slip into the stream.

A new 3 sleeper bridge between the two gates replaces a similar but aging bridge.

These tasks complete all the priority tasks on this stretch of Walk 7.

Another highlight of this WP was the introduction of our new high visibility vests - they are marked "A Coventry Way" on the back!.  From now on users will notice who is doing the good work, and of course we will all be safer when working by a road.

Plans

The next session planned is:

Wednesday 1st July 2009 at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location: Carol Green
Park at: Park on the NW side of the straight section of Spencers Lane about 100 yds from junction with ACW towards Berkeswell (GR 257 778)
Meet at: Meet at junction of Spencers Lane with ACW (Point 12 on map (GR 257 777)
Task(s): Install one new k/g and upgrade 1 p/g to k/g at Site 3  & one new k/g at Site 4 (Final plan as defined on the day!)

The session planned for 15-July may continue ACWA tasks on the Burton Green to Carol Green project, or may be in Warwickshire - more news soon.

Dates for the rest of 2009 will be mostly on the third Wednesday in each month from Jan-Nov, with work mostly expected to be in Warwickshire.
We are also planning extra dates for work in Solihull, carrying out tasks on the Benton Green to Carol Green improvement project.

The expected dates are therefore:

  • Wednesday 5 Aug
  • Wednesday 19 Aug 
  • Wednesday 16 Sep
  • Wednesday 21 Oct
  • Wednesday 18 Nov
