ACWA Working Party

On 5-Aug-2009 a Working Party installed two new kissing gates on the ACW route just north of Carol Green.

August Achievements 1 (to be cont. on WP News 43)

The first new is k/g is located at GR 258 780 (site 10), two fields before ACW reaches Spencers Lane.  This k/g replaces an aging stile just south of the sleeper bridge and the third new k/g installed on 1-July.

The second new k/g located at GR 257 778 (site 11), one field before ACW reaches Spencers Lane.   This k/g replaces a "new" stile installed a few years ago when the culvert was widened.  We were able to install it so that the new stoned farm track also extends through the new k/g.  You will also note that we were able to drive our "tool truck" right up to the site - explaining why our two tool trolleys could be used for transport to the first k/g!

In summary another satisfying day, with priority tasks completed, even though the weather was "somewhat damp" (but after a day of heavy rain making the ground sodden, not too much to wet us, but caggies got well used!).  The sun came out to cheer us after lunch at the Peeping Tom.

Plans

The next sessions planned are:

1st  Wednesday 19th August 2009 at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location: On or near to Tantara Lodge to Bubbenhall paths
Park at: On the "Green Triangle" near Cloud Bridge (GR 344 724) where the road from Bubbenhall meets the Stoneleigh to Tantara Lodge road.
Meet at: Initially at the "Green Triangle" then one party will walk to Site 1, and the second party will take 1 or 2 cars plus one set of tools to Parking Space 2 then walk to Site 5.
Task(s): Replace Stiles by k/g at at Sites 1 (GR 345 723) & 5 (GR 350 718)

2nd Wednesday 2nd September 2009 at 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm
Location: Carol Green
Park at: Park on the NW side of the straight section of Spencers Lane about 100 yds from junction with ACW towards Berkeswell (GR 256 778)
Meet at: Meet at junction of Spencers Lane with path M206 about 350 yds from junction with ACW towards Berkeswell (GR 256 780)
Task(s): Install a new boardwalk at site 1 (GR 256 784), and a new k/g at site 13, three fields before ACW reaches Spencers Lane

The extra WP day - Wednesday 2 Sep is now confirmed.  The task will almost certainly be to build the Boardwalk to hopefully complete our tasks on the Benton Green to Carol Green project.

The expected dates are therefore:

  • Wednesday 2 Sep
  • Wednesday 16 Sep
  • Wednesday 21 Oct
  • Wednesday 18 Nov
